Commonly asked Questions:
What do I need to do to prepare?
Patients must avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to treatment. Tanned skin is not treatable with IPL. The use of retinoids and/or antibiotics must also be stopped for at least 1 week before the treatment.
What can I expect after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment your skin may feel slightly sunburned and appear flushed. Any dark spots/sun damage may appear darker for 7-10 days following the treatment before flaking away. SPF will be applied before you leave. Make-up may be applied immediately following if needed.
I have dark skin and have been told I am not a candidate for laser treatments?
IPL is designed to target unwanted melanin (brown spots) and is therefore, not recommended for darker skin types. The staff can advise you if this is an appropriate treatment for your skin type during your initial visit.
What is the treatment actually doing?
IPL uses focused light and bi-polar radio frequency energies to restore skin to a more youthful state. Brown spots from sun damage and aging, red blotchiness from rosacea, and uneven skin texture will improve over a treatment series.
How long does the treatment take and is it painful?
The treatment takes about 30min. It is mildly uncomfortable like a hot rubber band snapping against the skin.
